Sequel Announcement: Remnants of Dawn

Fiendish Fiction is excited to announce our newest project currently in development: Remnants of Dawn!

Remnants of Dawn is an upcoming supernatural horror-thriller visual novel. While it is intended to be enjoyed as a standalone story, the plot follows the events of the Up All Night series thus far, with jaded protagonist Nick Torres on the hunt for a master vampire.

Hot on the trail, Nick finds himself enrolled in college, soon befriending and seeking to help newly-turned vampire Dante Jones. Dante, whose vampirism has impacted his college football career, will do just about anything to return to a normal life.

The full game is expected to debut on Steam and Itch.io in August, 2024, with a demo launching Q3, 2023. We will continue to work hard to bring you new content and updates, but in the meantime we encourage you to wishlist it on Steam.

Alongside our new game announcement, Fiendish Fiction has decided to launch a Patreon to help fund production. Every dollar goes right back into game development, with the current primary focus on Remnants of Dawn.

Please consider joining to gain access to exclusive content including early production artwork, sprite bases (they’re all in their underwear!), production devlogs, and at higher tiers exclusive discord access, monthly video Q/As, optional spoiler content, in-game credits, and even game keys and beta build access. Below is a sample of some of the exclusive content you’ll be privy to (hint… there are multiple variations of these designs, including, yes, underwear).

Our posts will contain thoughtful write-ups about art choices, character design, story development, the production process, and much more so you can enjoy a glimpse into the minds of our team as we continue to develop Remnants of Dawn, and other amazing games. Starting at a paltry $3 a month, you'll have access to a portfolio of quality content with regular updates and you'll be directly supporting a small indie team who truly pour their hearts into every game. We hope you'll check it out!

(Character designs from left to right: new Remnants of Dawn protagonist Dante, his best friend Mei, Up All Night veteran Nick, and his monster-hunting partner Katie in their usual casual outfits.)

Thank you all for continuing to support Fiendish Fiction in all our current and future development endeavors. We appreciate every one of you, and it's your continued support, playthroughs, ratings, and comments that encourages us to continue making games. You can expect to see more content from us soon, including Remnants of Dawn updates and a submission to the upcoming O2A2 2023 Visual Novel Jam.

Thank you again, and as always… Stay Fiendish!

Ceri here!

So it's been a while and I'm definitely forgetting a few details but are Katie and Nick simply just friends? I know the former's mother, Patricia, suspecting her daughter was dating the latter all the way back in Rumination with Katie lying to her mom as a cover to keep her safe from the monster hunting business (which as we know from the true end of Rumanition, turned out bad with Katie getting bitten and Nick badly injured in addition to Patricia meeting an uncertain fate). A few questions about Remnants of Dawn:

1. How many possible endings will RoD have?

2. Related to the above, as RoD was in pre-production when you guys released Rumanition, will one of the endings still tie into Runanition's true end?

3. Will Felix show up indirectly in RoD at some points?

4. Is RoD going to contain LGBT+ themes of any kind?

Off topic-ish, but here's some cool indie horrors that've been making the rounds:

- Bramble: The Mountain King (Inspired by Scandinavian folklore, epic visuals, cool enemy designs, interesting boss fights, cool story and an awesome soundtrack)

- My Friendly Neighborhood (Sesame Street gets crossed with Resident Evil! The horror-comedy is excellent, the weapons are inventive...full release coming July 18, 2023)

- FAITH: The Unholy Trinity (Creepy exorcism horror with a intriguing twisty story and an insane amount of incredible rotoscoped animations)

- The Voidness (Sci-fi horror following an astronaut navigating a dark research base with a LIDAR device while avoiding monsters lurking within)

Howdy, Ceri!

Thanks for the questions.

Have you played Up All Night: Daybreak, yet? It’s a short, free kinetic visual novel following the events of Rumination. Katie and Nick were definitely a thing in Rumination, but after the passage of time the two have parted ways as a couple. ...For now. Daybreak sheds a little more light on this.

1. We’re not sure about the ending count for RoD just yet, but definitely at least 10 and likely a lot more; ranging from short and sweet to long and dramatic. We intend for RoD to be much larger-scale than the original Up All Night, which means a lot more ways to die endings to explore.

2.Yes, RoD follows the events of the Up All Night ‘true end’ in its entirety thus far, including the Rumination ‘true end’ and Daybreak.

3.Yes, Felix plays a prominent role in RoD, both indirectly and directly. Grayson as well in some capacity, though her role isn’t as directly involved in the main plot as Felix’s.

4. Yes. Mainly as pertaining to Felix, but we have some other LGBTQ+ elements we’re planning to work in as well. It’s not the main focus of the story/plot, but LGBTQ+ representation is important to us as a team, and it’s an element we entirely intend to work into the story and characters.

And thanks for the indie horror recs… We haven’t heard of the others, but our team actually checked out FAITH. It was very cool, even though we sucked at the mechanics. Ended up watching a playthrough instead. :’) Out of the others, Bramble definitely seems the most up our alley. We’ll definitely have to check these out!

Ceri here with one last question: Will RoD eventually reveal what ultimately happened to Patricia or has Daybreak already mentioned what might've became of her?

Daybreak doesn't reveal this, but RoD definitely will!
